Acai and Oprah have recently become too closely associated for the comfort of Oprah and her public relations representatives. On one of her talk show episodes with Dr. Oz, acai berries were discussed and even referred to as nature's greatest "super food". Dr. Oz talked about the many impressive benefits of acai and, true to Oprah's nature, she marveled over the news. Since then, many companies that produce and sell acai have linked their product to Oprah.
This is fine, so long as the accuracy of Oprah's enthusiasm is put into perspective and presented authentically. The intent of the Oprah show was to give information. That particular show discussed acai berries and told of the nutritional profile of the berries. The acai berry is indeed quite impressive. Oprah expressed this and her enthusiasm over the "super food" was undeniable. Note however, that Oprah's enthusiasm was in regard to the natural nutritional content of the berry itself, not for any particular product made from acai berries.
The phrase "as seen on Oprah" which now headlines the marketing campaigns of many companies selling acai products implies that their product was actually featured on the Oprah show and that Oprah endorses their product. This is very misleading because Oprah does not endorse any particular acai product. What she does endorse, is the information about the acai berry as presented by her guest, Dr. Oz.
Acai and Oprah should only be phrased together in the same sentence in reference to the fact that acai was presented on one of Oprah's talk shows – acai berries, not any acai product.
Acai was presented on the Oprah show because of its amazing nutritional profile. Acai berries have an exceptionally high percentage of fiber, fatty acids, vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants.
Acai products are either made from 100% acai or a blend of acai and other ingredients including other juices. Acai products are generally taken as a nutritional supplement, a diet supplements, or as a part of a detox program.
Because of the high potency of antioxidants, acai products were touted as an excellent detox supplement on the Oprah show. With 33 times more antioxidants than red grapes or blueberries, acai berries are certainly the best way to cleanse the body. The high fiber content in acai also makes acai an excellent source of internal cleansing. These characteristics are what make acai such a good weight loss supplement.
The Oprah show highlighted the other benefits of acai as well, including increased energy, better mental clarity and boosting internal systems such as cardiac, digestive and the immune system.
Acai is indeed a very impressive little berry. And Oprah did in fact feature acai berries on her show because of the many health benefits of acai. This much is true. You should just be cautious when you put acai and Oprah in the same sentence to ensure that you are not being misleading by using Oprah's celebrity to promote a particular acai product.
