What are Antioxidants?

Antioxidants are absolutely essential to our human health. Antioxidants fight toxins and with all the toxins in our modern lives, we need antioxidants now more that ever before in human history. Toxins bombard us from every angle of living. We get toxins into our system through the foods we eat, the air we breathe, and even from the stress in our lives.

Some people think that if you eat healthy foods, you can avoid some of the dangerous toxins in fatty foods or highly processed foods. This is true, but the avoidance is so minimal that it really doesn't make that much difference. This is because there are too many sources of toxins that we simply can not avoid them. Even healthy foods have toxins. The truth of the matter is that in our modern age, we are so inundated with toxins that we must increase our intake of antioxidants in order to combat the dangers of all these toxins on our bodies.

Antioxidants fight free radicals and help the body to get rid of excess toxins. Antioxidants fight free radicals by absorbing them during the digestive process. They are absorbed into the waste and then expelled naturally. Without enough antioxidants in the body, you risk damage to the immune system.

Antioxidants are a sort of cleansing formula to restore the body to a healthy balance. Antioxidants are like the positive energy that counters the negative energy that plagues the human health system. Think of antioxidants as cool, refreshing, pure spring water, if you will, because the benefits of antioxidants are every bit as wonderful as the images of beautiful springs in a lush, natural environment.

The high potency of antioxidants found in acai berries is one of this food's biggest nutritional benefits. There is a standard measurement test for antioxidants which measures how many free radicals a particular food can absorb and eliminate. First, note that the average person requires a measurement of 1,670 oxygen radical absorbance capacity (ORAC) per day. This measurement test has shown that the antioxidants in acai berries measures 3,800 ORAC in a single serving. Considering that most people do not get even half the required among on a daily basis, it is quite impressive to see that by simply taking acai, you can get more than enough antioxidants.

While there are several avenues you can take to increase the amount of antioxidants you get, it is first of all most important that you recognize the value of antioxidants in your diet. Second, it is important for you to realize how many antioxidants you normally get (or do not get) in your diet as it currently is. Thirdly, once you see that you do not get enough antioxidants and that if you were to increase your intake of them just how your health would improve both immediately and long term, you need to make some changes in your diet. For the easiest and most efficient source of antioxidants, you should consider adding acai berries to your diet.
