Basic Info On Hair Transplants

by site editor John L. Farnsworth, last update: 5/17/2012 9:23:59 AM. hair, hair transplant

Though the first hair transplants were done in Japan in the thirties, doctors there at the time only used them to repair damage to the eyebrows and eyelashes. It was in the United States in the fifties that doctors began experimenting with the hair transplant procedure to cure [link]male pattern [link]baldness[/link][/link]. In the early days of hair transplants the end result was far from a seamless one; the "plugs", as they came to be known were 4mm incisions with any number of hairs inserted into them. Because the average human hair follicle is only about 1mm and has anywhere between one to four hairs, this gave an obviously unnatural look to anyone who had a hair transplant done during this time.

Today it is possible to receive much more convincing hair transplants. The hair is taken from another part of your body and transplanted into smaller follicles with the natural one to four hairs per follicle. If you are fortunate and not financially limited you may be able to get a very natural looking hair transplant, but many are not that lucky and end up with scabbing and unnatural looking, bad hair transplants. Even worse the hair transplant may not bond correctly and much of it can be undone. If you do decide to get a hair transplant, you should look into your choice in doctors very carefully; although hair transplants can be extremely expensive it is not the sort of thing you want to cut costs or go bargain shopping for.

Not all of the transplanted hair, but the majority of it will fall out almost immediately following the hair transplant. This is normal and not something to be alarmed with, the follicles are usually still there and the hair will regrow fully in six to nine months. During this period however it will not even resemble a normal head of hair, and it would probably be best to wear a hat.

As I mentioned above hair transplants are very expensive, and the more realistic they look the more expensive they will be. What is of course preferable is to regrow your own hair (your own hair from your head). For this purpose, herbal hair growth supplements are very effective and are a fraction of the price of hair transplants. If you chose to use a herbal supplement instead of going for a hair transplant you obviously save yourself the trouble of going through surgery and the risk of scabbing from that surgery. There are also pharmaceuticals that are used in place of hair transplants, and while these are cheaper than the surgery, they are still quite expensive. Price aside, the pharmaceutical drugs have side effects which are often permanent. These include side effects which impact your sexual health, and I don't need to tell you they should be avoided. This is another area herbal supplements have the advantage, as they do not come with side effects.

If you are going to get a hair transplant, do your research carefully. But also consider hair growth supplements as well.
