If so, you're probably up against androgenic alopecia, a condition that is occurs commonly in men and women alike. Saw palmetto will serve the purpose of preventing the formation of dihydrotestosterone from testosterone - resulting from the action of the 5-alpha-reductase enzyme.

You should know that the action of the 5-alpha-reductase enzyme is a natural process that initiates the process of balding, which then gets progressively worse. Saw palmetto is reported to be very effective with this type of balding.

Be forewarned, however, that you should seek the advice of a professional who understands by saw palmetto and the issues concerning balding. You will need to be able to ascertain the actual content of saw palmetto per capsule of the product you have opted to use.

Seek medical advice in determining how much would be right for you. You are going to need anywhere from 160 and 320 mg of saw palmetto per day before you can expect to see positive results.

When you are using saw palmetto as a remedy for hair loss, you may have to deal with some side effects. Some of these could be decidedly unpleasant. Nausea, bad breath, stomach aches and disturbances in bowel movement are symptoms to watch out for.

Restrictions: Saw palmetto will be off limits for you if suffer from blood disorders or are using a blood thinner - at best you'll be able to use it with caution. Hemophiliacs must be particularly careful as saw palmetto has occasionally been known to cause acute hemorrhaging

If you are a woman, you'll need to avoid saw palmetto if you are suffering from breast cancer. The same will be true if you are up against conditions involving hormones. You should know that saw palmetto is also thought to have the effect of altering the character of estrogen as well as testosterone.

For all these reasons, you need to weigh the pros and cons before you decide to use saw palmetto as a solution for hair loss. Many people determine that they are indeed a good candidate for saw palmetto and therefore enjoy a full head of hair as a result.
