Female Hair Loss, A Rarer But Devastating Problem

Female hair loss is far more common than many people realize. Granted, men do experience it on a much more frequent basis; and this is why most of the hair loss treatments are designed for men. But what causes hair loss in women and what are the treatment options?

Female hair loss, or fe[link]male pattern [link]baldness[/link][/link] affects different parts of the scalp. Rather than beginning at certain points like a receding hair line and a thinning at the very top (or bald spot), female pattern baldness usually attacks the entire scalp at once. In some ways this can actually be a positive thing, so long as it is limited. Thinning hair and hair loss in women happens to many women over forty, but because it does not occur in any specific area it is usually not noticeable to anyone except the woman and her hair stylist. However, in particularly bad cases of female pattern baldness occurs it can have a tremendous negative impact on appearance. Unfortunately it is much harder to predict hair loss in women; it does not seem to have the same genetic precursors and can happen at any age.

At first female hair loss was thought to be caused by the same factors that make men lose their hair: DHT. DHT is a hormone that is produced in and binds to hair follicles so that nutrients cannot get through. Although it is found in women in tiny amounts it was still for a very long time thought to be the cause of female hair loss; researchers now know this to be false. There are many things which can cause hair loss in women. Hormonal changes, such as pregnancy, birth control medications and stress as well as menopause can be at the root of the problem. Unfortunately all of the details of the direct hormonal cause of female hair loss are not known; but there are medications and supplements which take a less direct approach to treating hair loss in women.

One of the main actions of female hair loss treatments is to increase the growing phase of the hair growth cycle. All of the follicles of hair go through three phases: growing, inactive, and thinning and falling out. By extending the growing phase hair loss can be delayed, stopped and/or reversed. At the same time it is doing this it also provides all the nutrients that hair needs to grow in a great abundance. B6, biotin and magnesium are all needed for strong healthy hair. One of the best products for treating female hair loss is Provillus, which also makes a supplement for male pattern baldness. It can reverse hair loss in women in many cases, and a lot of women at least see an improvement in the condition. To learn more about their products, simply follow the link: Provillus
