The Natural HGH Choice

The only natural HGH is the HGH being produced in your body. In the earliest days of hormone replacement therapy they did use a form of natural HGH though. The first experiments in hormone replacement were conducted in the nineteen twenties and used bovine growth hormone from lactating cows (cows produce much more growth hormone during this period). Because a purified form of bovine insulin is effective in treating diabetes, it was thought that the same could be done with bovine growth hormone in the treatment of growth deficiency. Unfortunately the experiments into using bovine growth hormone on human was a complete failure, the human body appears to be incapable of using growth hormone from another animal. Some recent research done in 2005 showed a slight increase in levels of IGF-1 (another similar hormone) from use of bovine growth hormone, though this one study has not been enough to reverse scientific thinking on the matter.

A few decades later in the nineteen fifties doctors began replacing growth hormone with natural HGH from deceased donors. The science of hormone replacement was still very far from using it for anti aging purposes, but as stated earlier it was instead used to treat growth deficiencies in children with small stature. HGH treatment can correct this problem in growth deficiencies which are not linked to low levels of HGH, with the exception of a rare type of dwarfism where the receptors of HGH are unresponsive. The use of natural HGH for this purpose remained the only application of growth hormone for the next two decades. In the 1970s however, a small study was conducted and published in the New England Journal of Medicine by doctors who had little idea of how much it would change the way we look at our bodies and the aging process.

You see by the time the seventies came around natural HGH was not the only option, a method of synthesizing HGH had been developed. Because doctors no longer needed to rely on donors for HGH, there was enough available to do studies on and look for other uses. The study into the effects of HGH on aging adult which would later become the basis for all further study into the hormone was conducted on 21 men between 61 and 81 years old. After six months of regular injections of HGH all of the subjects which received the growth hormone and not the placebo showed an 8% increase in lean muscle and a substantial drop in body fat. After the study was published it understandably sponsored a lot more research into the effects of HGH, and different studies have concluded that increasing levels of HGH in aging adults leads to: healthier skin, increased bone density, improved sleeping patterns, higher levels of IGF-1, a rebound in sex drive, stronger and more muscle mass as well as many others.

Receiving HGH from an artificial exogenous source rather than natural HGH has its share of negative consequences and side effects though. Fluid retention and arthritis are commonly reported. In the cases of arthritis it either develops early in people using HGH injections or existing cases of arthritis are exacerbated. HGH injections are also unsafe for diabetics as they interfere with insulin. Cases of hypertension have been reported, and in the most severe and long term cases of HGH injection therapy acromegaly has developed. Acromegaly is a deformity caused by irregular and overactive bone and cartilage growth. People who receive HGH via injection for long periods of time gradually lose the ability to produce HGH in their pituitary glands and become reliant on the injections.

There is a way to boost your levels of natural HGH, and without an injection. The most recent development in the field of human growth hormone are HGH secretagogues. These usually come in the form of a supplement, and promote the production and release of much more of your body's own natural HGH. It is much cheaper and much safer than injections of synthesized HGH, though the effects take longer to see and feel. Even still, it is considered the preferable choice.
