There is what a person would call a low calorie diet in casual conversation, and then there is a medical definition of a very low calorie diet. Defined as being less than 800 calories per day, a low calorie diet should be done under the supervision of a doctor who can ensure that you are still getting the required amounts of vitamins, minerals and other nutrients. The best way to get these without exceeding 800 calories per day is usually a combination of supplements and liquid meals.
While a low calorie diet is probably the fastest way to lose a large amount of weight, there are definite drawbacks. When you are on a low calorie diet your body will go into what can be referred to as "starvation mode". Metabolism will slow substantially as your body attempts to preserve all of the calories it can, it will also work to store fat cells for later use and first break down muscle tissue to use as energy. This is a major drawback of a low calorie diet, and many other quick weight loss methods. Muscle tissue takes a large amount of calories just to maintain itself, and losing muscle mass will lower the amount of calories you can consume without converting it to fat. Some other rapid weight loss plans counter this with exercise, but this will be very difficult under a low calorie diet because your energy levels will drop substantially and your body may be too frail for exercise during this period. Even though shakes, soups and supplements are specifically designed to give you your daily requirement of nutrients, deficiencies of various vitamins and minerals during a low calorie diet are common and can lead to death from heart complications and other organ problems. A low calorie diet is usually just for a few weeks and should never exceed a few months. For all of these reasons a low calorie diet should only be done under the direct supervision of a doctor, and only those who are morbidly obese (overweight to the point it could be fatal in the foreseeable future) should be considered candidates for a low calorie diet.
If you are on a low calorie diet or will be it can be an extremely difficult to maintain. An appetite suppressant is the best way to ensure that you stick to your low calorie diet plan. A stimulant, such as the amphetamines which are commonly prescribed as appetite suppressants may put too much strain on an already weakened heart and fragile body. For this reason Hoodia is undoubtedly the best appetite suppressant for a low calorie diet. Hoodia is not a stimulant at all, and has no side effects or interactions with other supplements or pharmaceuticals. This natural appetite suppressant won't put any unneeded pressure on the heart or blood pressure and is something you can get without prescription. Hoodia is both safe and effective for all diet plans.
